Griz-Bucks Game Post

Alright. I'm live courtside at FedExForum for Griz-Bucks. Hopefully we'll get a better performance from the home team than we did Wednesday night.

As always, this post is here for breaking news and as a forum for anyone out there who wants to chime in with comments or questions.

Post game report to follow later tonight.

Let's do this.

UPDATE: Michael Redd and Charlie Villanueva are both inactive for tonight's game.

tough loss in OT -- 96-101.

Good game, but seriously, when you have star guards like Mayo and Gay, you don't throw it in to Marc Gasol and Hakim Warrick at the end of the game.

Conley has been good this game.

Let's FOCUS people.

Chris Herrington | Fri, 11/14/2008 - 9:40pm

How about that steal by Conley? Oh, and why don't we just add 6 years to our team, after all who cares about a 3 year plan, we want to win now. That strategy certainly worked well for us with Jerry West. Oh wait, I forgot, we got swept three straight times in the playoffs.

Hinrick can play defense, spot up for 3 and bring the ball up under pressure. He is the perfect compliment to OJ Mayo.

Conley right now is terrible. He has a shaky shot and he can't even run the break at this point.

Please tell me you aren't proposing a dump of Conley for Hinrich and Swift! Not only is it mind-boggling that any Grizzlies fan would wish to regain the Stro-No-Show; I can't understand the interest in dumping a 21 year old point guard who has averaged 41.5% shooting, a 2.47:1 assist to turnover ratio to this point in his career for a 27 year old point guard who has averaged 41.4% shooting, a 2.74:1 assist to turnover ratio to this point in his career. It is also instructive to note that through his first 76 NBA games, Hinrich shot only 38.6% from the field, whereas Conley, through his first 62 games has shot 41.5%. I'm tired of hearing people pine over Kirk Hinrich. Patience, patience, patience.

Rudy has been bad all night, but he is clutch as a #&#!@&!#!@(*.

Chris Herrington | Fri, 11/14/2008 - 9:23pm

a pretty bad game....but 2 huge buckets to finally give us the lead back...nice

Here is a thought on the Conley trade:

Why not a 3 way trade

To Chicago:
Antonio Walker
Sean Williams

To New Jersey:
Greg Buckner
Mike Conley

To Memphis:
Kirk Hinrich
Stromile Swift

This trade seems to work. The one issue I see is if the nets would take on buckner's contract. But I think that Conley could work well with Devin Harris

are done when 4 grizzlies are there to get the ball against no defenders....

if he doesn't grab those boards, the griz still get them...

Conley has been better than his box score tonight.

He was waiting to check in when Lowry got fouled. I would have come back with him a little sooner.

Chris Herrington | Fri, 11/14/2008 - 9:08pm

I should add that the lack of experience playing with each other, as Chris has noted, affects everyone on the team and will through at least 25-40 games, but especially a point guard like Conley.

Keith (not verified) | Fri, 11/14/2008 - 9:00pm

I commented about Conley on the Knicks pre-game post a couple nights ago with extensive thoughts about why I think Griz fans have to be patient with him. Tonight I'm seeing more evidence to support my opinion.

To begin with, Conley continues to assert himself on the boards, already racking up 6 rebounds through the end of the 3rd quarter, while also racking up 3 assists, 1 block, and 1 steal, and committing only 1 TO.

Further, it is increasingly clear that the Grizzlies offense is not designed for Conley to rack up assists. Not only are both Gay and Mayo primarily looking to create off the dribble (negating any possibility for an assist), the times the Griz run plays for players to spot-up and shoot, the ball is almost always going through a big man at the top of the key, whether it be Gasol, Arthur, or Milicic. Finally, if you consider the shooting percentages of Gay (41%), Arthur (37.8%), and Ross (38.5%), it is clear that three of the guys who have taken shots off of the majority of the passes from Conley are just not taking care of business right now.

Once again, I just don't see any reason to give up on Conley at this point, and I think the evidence substantiates that case pretty well.

whey doesn't he play more?

Anonymous (not verified) | Fri, 11/14/2008 - 8:56pm

I need to go look and see how many times Rudy has failed to score in double digits this year and last...

i bet it isn't many....

only 6 points right now...

Anonymous (not verified) | Fri, 11/14/2008 - 8:54pm

Yeah -- they're rattled.

this stretch really underscores in youth and inexperience -- including on the sideline and including inexperience playing TOGETHER

Chris Herrington | Fri, 11/14/2008 - 8:53pm

and our offense is an disaster...is there an actual plan on offense?

Anonymous (not verified) | Fri, 11/14/2008 - 8:49pm

He's good. I read he has the 2nd most assists in the league since he started playing last year...paul is first...

Only makes sense that skiles would keep starting ridnour over him...

O.J. is the purer scorer. Rudy needs to get back to being more effective off the ball.

Both are going to be 20+ scorers for years.

Chris Herrington | Fri, 11/14/2008 - 7:42pm

Crowd is bad and will be for most if not all of this season. It's a given at this point.

I'll report this again in the post-game, but I will say I've heard from multiple sources that local TV ratings are way up right now on what they were a year ago. One broadcast-team employee told me ratings were up 75% on that road trip.

I think TV ratings, talk-radio call-in, etc. will presage increased attendance at some point. But it'll take a while.

Chris Herrington | Fri, 11/14/2008 - 7:41pm

Whose going to be our #1 option of the future, in your opinion, O.J. or Rudy?

Anonymous (not verified) | Fri, 11/14/2008 - 7:40pm

Marc is ballin'!

Chris Herrington | Fri, 11/14/2008 - 7:34pm

isn't as good as the bearded marc gasol....

Got here too late for Iavaroni's pre-game, so I dunno about plans for Jaric and Critt though, after Wednesday, I would think there's a good chance Jaric might start to work his way into the game more.

Tonight would be a good night for Conley to do something, certainly, matched-up with Luke Ridnour and without much muscle in the paint for the Bucks.

Chris Herrington | Fri, 11/14/2008 - 7:11pm

When is Mike Conley going to get started? Also, do you think Jaric and Crittenton will get any playing time tonight? I don't understand the fact that Buckner is playing ahead of both of them.
